Welcome
The Software Architecture (SWA) research group has been newly founded at the Faculty of Computer Science at RWTH Aachen University in April 2026. The group is headed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Ronny Seiger.
We investigate topics related to the engineering and development of architectures for modern software systems. A special focus is on software-intensive Cyber-physical Systems (CPS) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems, which combine software and systems engineering aspects. Modern CPS and IoT systems increasingly rely on software to provide innovative features to their users. These cyber-physical software systems need suitable software architectures that go beyond classical systems engineering. Our group applies modern software architecture concepts, techniques, and methods to provide a top-down view on the development of CPS and IoT systems–extending them to the scope of systems of systems. Furthermore, we are investigating how and where artificial intelligence, especially large language models, can be used to efficiently assist software architects with their knowledge-intensive work and decision-making processes.
